When I think of Bali there is one word which lingers on my mind – Zen. The island hits all the right notes for those in search of relaxation, nature lovers, foodies, design, spirituality, cultural enthusiasts etc. Besides the beauty of the island, it is the people of Bali who left a permanent imprint in me. You can really see that they act out of the kindness of their hearts. I recall our Spa therapists who gave us a lift on their scooters in fear that we wouldn’t make it back to the bus station in time. Who does that? Balinese do. If you are planning on heading East some day, here is just a bit of inspiration.
Get Spa Treats
A must-do when on the island. There are loads of Spas with prices ranging from peanuts to a hefty mortgage, the choice is yours.
Visit Monkey Forest
I’ve seen these wonderful creatures in their natural environment a few times but never had I seen them this close. Such an amazing experience. It’s worth noting that they are quite capable of helping themselves to the contents of your bag.
Hike Mount Batur
At 1717m high, view is the word. A wake up call at 2am might be considered a rude awakening but apart from that, the hike and the atmosphere itself is one to be experienced. The icing on the cake is seeing that sunrise at 6am.
Cook with a Chef
Even for seasoned cooks, I think exchanging culinary ideas is not a bad thing. Learn how to cook stuff in a way that you normally wouldn’t do.
Seems like everybody is into yoga or at least everybody finds a reason to practise it whilst on the island. Actually this is where I had my first encounter and I’m still practising. Some hotels offer some yoga classes for free.
If ever in Seminyak you should drop into Saigon restaurant for a scrumptious meal. Sip a cocktail by the pool at The W Hotel or take a twilight walk on the beach. If the rice pads tickle your fancy, then The Chedi Club in Ubud will serve you treat. The tender care and attention from the humble staff will melt your heart.
Until soon. Live Love Laugh – Stay Zen x.
